(Chen Fenwan)

On July 29th, 2023, the opening ceremony of "The Paper Cutter - Chen Fen Wan Solo Exhibition", organized by Jupiter Museum of Art, was successfully held. The exhibition chooses "paper" as the medium to create a sprawling pink universe belonging to artist Chen Fenwan, where paper-cut totems are transformed into illusions, bringing the art of paper-cutting from the traditional to a contemporary creative sculptural installation.
The exhibition is composed of many types of works, including "Infinite", one of the masterpieces of Fenwan's paper-cutting installation, "Series of Symmetry", the iconic easel work, and the latest work "Looking Down At the Sun". The exhibition re-interprets nature through a romantic perspective and witnesses the rotation of time, thus connecting the emotions between individuals in the community and constructing several poetic public interactive spaces.
In the immersive field, the artist creates a gentle and romantic yet still impactful visual feast for viewers.
Speech by the curator and director of Jupiter Museum of Art: Fenwan's works have the attribute of urban public aesthetics, and are suitable for the interaction of community relations. Most of her works express the emotional connection between people, with the qualities of fashionable hipster aesthetics at the same time. These installations with public attributes show an act of art empowering commerce in the true sense of the word. This exhibition has been prepared for more than two years, through the careful preparation of Wan Studio and the persistent efforts of Jupiter Museum of Art, we can see the wonderful presentation today.
Speech by artist Chen Fenwan: The Paper Cutter is a suspenseful title, also as a label. In the process of viewing the exhibition, the audience can both decipher the suspense and dissolve the label. I hope that this exhibition will bring people's imagination to be released, and I also hope to convey that paper cutting is not only a technique, but also a concept that can stand in the present.
Speech by academic advisor Gu Zhenqing: This exhibition represents a new style of modern Chinese art exhibition. Chen Fenwan's paper-cutting creations are different from the paper-cutting in traditional art. She creates a new interpretation space, utilizes an artistic language that is more in line with the international standard, and truly inherits the paper-cutting to the contemporary era through the diversified, three-dimensional and planar collision, and the experience of reality and virtuality.
At the opening ceremony, artist Chen Fenwan also led the audience into the exhibition hall, explaining each exhibit from multiple levels, perspectives, and aspects, such as art forms, story concepts of the work's creation, and materials.
From the infinite extensions of "Infinite", to "Memories in Bamboo", created together with her mother, to "Lucky Garden", which is full of curiosity about the relationship between palm prints and destiny, Fenwan tells the stories behind her works.
